4th of July Extravaganza!!! (Sun, July 3rd)

This is going to be the big event of the year for Runnells Paintball!!

Are you eager to dig in and play some paintball, even if you have never done so? Would you rather just relax, hang out around a beautiful outdoor pond, eat, drink, and watch fireworks? Would you prefer to do BOTH?

The 4th of July Extravaganza (taking place at 3pm to late) on Sunday, July 3rd, will be Runnells Paintball's big holiday event of 2011! There will be day games, relaxation, food, drinks, fireworks, and the rare opportunity to take part in Night Battle 2011!

If you have never played paintball and are interested in partaking or just watching, this is your chance (we do have a limited amount of gear for rental, put your requests in ASAP, by contacting Ryan Hudson, Alex Parsons, or Crystal Parsons, OR email runnellspaintball@gmail.com). Pricing structure will be standard ($25 for full package, $15 admission/500 paintballs, $5 admission only, contact for other prices)

What is Night Battle?

Night Battle is an attempt at an annual tradition, started many years ago on the East Side of Des Moines, which included pretty much waht is in the name - a battle at night. It always takes place in an outdoors, usually forested area. Using the term "game" would be a misleading descriptor of this event, as it has always been a much more intense partaking.

With the increases in safety, technology, and affordable sporting equipment, the spirit of Night Battle was picked up again around 2000 with the use of paintball equipment. Still accompanying the new equipment are tactical gear, pyrotechnics, drawn out tactics, unique scenarios, and overall an exceptionally unique combat experience.

Those who have actually partaken in this event have been few - and many of the veterans will be taking part in "Night Battle 2011" this year! If you are interested in paintball, consider taking it up a notch and partaking in Night Battle! we say this because Night Battle is NOT paintball - it is an event in which we just so happen to use paintball guns as the main item. Night Battle has traditionally been played on an extremely large, un-prepared area of land. For 2011, Runnells Paintball has the honor of hosting "Night Battle 2011" on the newly improved Runnells Paintball field. This will keep things much more localized and illuminated.

Expect a challenge - we will be doing our best to prepare the field and including luminary devices, but you will still be navigating woods/creek terrain in the dark. Bring a tough spirit, an open mind, and overall a desire to have fun!

2011 Event Schedule/News

The big news - the land bridges are installed!! Special thanks to Paul Robinson for providing the materials and installation.

We have removed our one previous bridge (which was small) and replaced it with a larger land bridge. We have also added an enormous land bridge on the lower end of the field that can handle vehicles driving across! We are taking our older, small bridge and putting it in a new location.

Along with the land bridge installation, we have installed some pretty big barricades. We are about ready to have our official 2011 opening game, and are currently making final preparations to the field.

2011 Schedule of Events

Opening Game - Sunday, May 15th at 2pm
Memorial Day Weekend Game - Sunday, May 29th at 2pm
4th of July Extravaganza (Read more below) - Saturday or Sunday of 4th of July Weekend, specific day/time TBD

4th of July Extravaganza!!!

This will be our big event for 2011. There will be food, drinks, day games, a campfire, relaxing around the lake, fireworks, and a night game! We plan to promote this event, and use it as a big promotional tool. We will be pouring LOTS of preparation, energy, equipment, and planning into the night game.

2011 News

2011 is looking to be a great year for Runnells Paintball! Although the startup of this organization and field has been gradual, we will be taking larger steps forward this year into improving things.

The BIG NEWS!!!

We will be receiving 1-3 large cement culverts (8 feet long, 4 feet tall, 4 feet diameter) to be delivered to our desired location(s) on our field!! This is a generous donation and will not only provide additional cover, it will tremendously open up the field as they will be used as one or multiple bridges across the large areas of the creek. This will cut out some of the previous limitations that we've had, and will also require new strategic thinking to those playing!

Along with the cement culverts, we have more material to add to the course. Once the winter weather dies off, we will be announcing our 2011 "Big Spring Clean Up Day", and we can use all the help we can get for this. We'll be constructing many more barricades and building up and around the new bridges with the goal of cutting out large portions of "no-man's land". Most importantly, we'll be focusing very heavily on landscaping, brush clearing, and weed killing to eliminate impassible terrain and make the field much nicer to play on. We will be applying weed killer as well as taking chainsaws, clippers, axes, rakes, and the like to the terrain to make sure the woods feel stays but the annoyances go.

Game News

We plan to play MORE games this year! Due to scheduling conflicts in the past, we have been limited on the days of the week we can host games. This year, however, we will be able to host games on Saturdays to ensure the most people can make it. We will have the capacity to refill CO2, we should have a few more guns for rental, and we plan to have a more comfortable resting area/safe zone that provides shade and places to store personal items as well as food and beverages. We also are going to be doing EVERYTHING possible to ensure that a night game(s) take(s) place.

AIRSOFT NEWS

Airsoft, being an enjoyable and more affordable hobby (that unfortunately requires more close quarters combat), is in the talks with Runnells Paintball. Although our aim is paintball, there is the possibility of incorporating and constructing an airsoft arena near our paintball field. We will keep updates coming as things develop.
